Tips for a First-Time Competition Climber

September 23, 2019 By patrick@educatedclimber.com 30 Comments

In this special episode of the podcast, we hear from 3 different climbers (one of whom is myself) as we try to create a framework of basic tips and tactics that could be useful for a first-time competitor at an ISA-style climbing competition. First up, I go back and revisit my notes from when I competed in the 2012 Climbing Competition, and then I’m joined by Chris Sallows and Brick Reilly, who are both more knowledgeable than myself, to get their unique perspective on this topic. There is definitely a lot of value here for a beginner. Let me know what you think!

One-Handing (is the Devil…?)

September 5, 2019 By patrick@educatedclimber.com 38 Comments

Hoping to bring some much needed perspective to this highly controversial and divisive issue…

“If you waste your time a talking
To the people who don’t listen,
To the things that you are saying
Who do you think’s gonna hear?
And if you should die explaining how
The things that they complain about
Are things they could be changing,
Who do you think’s gonna care?
There were other lonely singers
In a world turned deaf and blind,
Who were crucified for what they tried to show.
And their voices have been scattered by the swirling winds of time,
‘Cause the truth remains that no one wants to know”
